Former Deloitte Information Security Expert joins Betty Blocks as CISO

We’re thrilled to announce Jeroen Bulters as our new Chief Information Security Officer. While building our no-code application development platform, security has always been our first priority. As the company and platform are growing, the level of security required to maintain complex infrastructure further matures. Bulters will oversee all security activities of the platform, ranging from development efforts to maintaining the company’s ISO certification.

“Betty Blocks is an innovative company, but innovation may not be hindered by the rigor required for good security,” Bulters said. “I was happy with the current state of the platform and the attention that security is receiving right now.”

Last year, Betty Blocks became the first no-code platform to obtain an ISO certification. ISO is a specification that verifies the high standard of an information security management system (ISMS). This established our platform as a serious contender in the no-code market. The range of use for our platform is expanding and involving more complexity, for which we are maturing in this process.

“We are already leading in our industry when it comes to security,” CEO Chris Obdam said. “What we want to offer is security by design, so that not only makes our platform secure, but also the applications built on our platform. With our new CISO, we want to continue improving the level of security we offer.”

The hpaPaaS provider bases its information security measures on three pillars: Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability. Obtaining an ISO certification was the first step, and now we’re taking our security to the next level. With new management of information security, Betty Blocks is focusing even more on maintaining and improving our ISMS.

Bringing his professionalism to the company, Bulters has 18 years of experience in software engineering and security management. As a former Cyber Risk Services Manager for Deloitte, Bulters was assisting a number of multinational clients to increase their cyber security posture and guide them in the transition of seeing security as a burden towards seeing security as an opportunity.

At Betty Blocks, Bulters will manage the alignment with our security policy, determine possibilities for growth, secure our information architecture, and maintain the platform’s availability. The ‘availability’ pillar is about the performance of our platform and is subject to high security measures. Betty Blocks’ mission is to provide users with a good experience, and avoid issues such as a server overload which can be more susceptible to risks and external attacks.

“Security is not only a goal, but a means to an end,” Bulters said. “We use security as a motivation to move the entire platform into a more mature and professional state. Previously, architectural changes were mainly driven by feature demands. Within the next year, I hope to change this and also have security be a driver for change and innovation.”

In the future, Bulters will not only manage the security of the company but also plans to do so for partners and customers. He will talk to external vendors to discuss their security measures and coordinate security tests for both Betty Blocks and the external vendor. To Betty Blocks’ clients, Bulters is available as a security consultant to inform them about the latest security trends and how clients can secure their applications.
