We tend to find comfort and safety in the things we know and understand, and the routine we have built in our lives, it's only human nature! Getting out of our comfort zone can be a scary thing and some deal better with this than others. But how does an entire company bring about change, let alone transform their business?
In the workplace, the need for change is like the proverbial pot of frogs starting to boil. The problem, of course, is the change comes too late. Geoffrey Moore cites the pull of the past as the main reason companies don't adapt. Year in and year out, Budgets are won by the status quo, and so we hear stories of companies like Kodak that favored film R&D as opposed to digital, or: Manylabs that fail to productize their innovations.
The way to avoid a Kodak-like mistake is to find those projects that make you feel uncomfortable and fund them anyway. Ideally, you can prove your hunches with very little investment, and you will at least face your biggest fears head on. The worst change is the one that comes at you like a slow moving train, and yet you did not get out of the way; let alone build your own, faster train.

According to Forbes, Change starts from the bottom up: 'That is, change is coming from people in the rank and file, and digital implementations are taking place at the project or departmental level. Disruption is taking place at the grassroots level, and percolating upward. As low-level successes are achieved, and word spreads across enterprises, adoption will spread as well.' A good leader will recognize and nurture those projects.
